Reverse the Decline of Biodiversity
The accelerated disappearance of living species, closely linked to human activities and climate change, is weakening our natural environments and their ability to perform vital functions for all living beings, including humans. In the face of this crisis, ecological restoration must begin with the plants and habitats that support biodiversity.
However, just as ecological restoration is becoming more urgent than ever, the availability of native seeds in Canada is dramatically insufficient. As a result, the vast majority of native plant seeds are imported from the United States — poorly adapted to our local conditions — putting us at both an ecological and economic disadvantage.
Akène aims to turn this paradox into a lever for action. By cultivating and harvesting native seeds in Quebec — on our own land and in collaboration with partners across the province — we are helping to build a truly local industry.
Our mission: to catalyze the production of native seeds and develop seed autonomy in Eastern Canada. Whether for a project in the forest, in the city, along a roadside, on a riverbank, in a garden… or even on a balcony, Akène makes it possible to restore habitats that take root sustainably in their environment, thanks to seeds perfectly adapted to local conditions.
