Conferences and Workshops

Conférence sur les plantes indigènes - Akène culture forestière

Two conferences and a mini-conference-workshop are already available, but we have also prepared customized workshop sessions for certain organizations in the past. Likewise, the content can be adapted to suit specific contexts, such as schools.

If you would like to invite Akène for one of these activities or if you have a specific project in mind, contact us at info@akene.ca.

Native Plants: The Keystone of Biodiversity

(Adjustable duration: 60 to 90 minutes)

As the biodiversity decline finally begins to capture the attention of the general public and decision-makers, it is now time to focus on the solutions within our reach. Come and discuss the inseparable link between plant species and native fauna, the state of biodiversity, and existing conservation efforts. Most importantly, learn how anyone with access to a piece of land, no matter how small, has the power to make a significant contribution to maintaining biodiversity.

Native Plants and Landscaping Techniques for a Low Maintenance Garden

(Adjustable duration: 60 to 120 minutes)

This introduction to the approaches and techniques for designing native plant gardens will show you how to create gardens that combine beauty, low maintenance, resilience, and ecological contribution. Through a series of presentations and case studies, we will cover topics ranging from selecting native plants to garden planning and design. We will also discuss how native plants, whether ornamental, edible, or medicinal, allow us to create spaces that can quickly and concretely contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity.

Conference-Workshop: Successful Seedlings and Cultivation of Native Plants – Easier Than You Think!

(Adjustable duration: 30 to 60 minutes)

This hands-on workshop will demystify some of the terms, concepts, and techniques surrounding native plants to help you seed and grow them successfully. After an overview of these elements, you'll be able to get your hands in the soil, prepare a small tray of seedlings, and take them home, well-equipped for successful planting in your gardens.
