Wildflower Meadow Mix - Arid Sun

Context: Sandy sites, poor and dry soils, maximum exposure

Objectives: Drought-resistant flower cover, rich colours

Constraints: Drought tolerance, low-input species, maintaining balance between flowering species and grasses

Mix description:

The Arid Sun mix is designed for highly exposed sites where drought is a constant challenge. Adapted to dry, poor, or sandy soils, it brings together a selection of native species known for their exceptional resilience and ability to establish in demanding conditions while still creating an attractive flowering cover.

With a natural balance of flowering plants and structural native grasses, this mix forms a stable, colourful, and long-lasting planting. Blooming from spring through fall, it provides a continuous food source for pollinators, even in arid environments. Selected species typically reach 45 to 150 cm in height, making this mix ideal for naturalistic, durable, and low-maintenance landscapes.

Each packet covers approximately 100 square feet.

Minimum height: 45 cm

Maximum height: 150 cm

Species included in the mix:

Some seeds in this mix require cold stratification to ensure germination. See the growing notes below for more details.

Lumière : Sun
Stratification : 60 to 90 days
Semences par pied carré :

Some seeds in this mix require cold stratification to germinate. If you directly sow outdoors in the fall, stratification will occur naturally, and germination will take place in the spring.

For spring sowing, you will need to perform cold stratification before planting.

The seeds already come in a packet containing vermiculite. For stratification, you first need to moisten this mixture. Add 125 ml (1/2 cup) of water to the packet to moisten the vermiculite, then mix the contents of the packet well. Seal the packet, then place it in the refrigerator for 60 to 90 days.

Check on your seeds regularly during stratification. As soon as you see radicles emerging (those little white tips poking out of the seeds), take the packet out of the refrigerator and sow its contents right away, even if the recommended stratification period is not quite finished yet.

Once germination starts, every day matters: wait too long and sowing becomes impossible, the sprouts tangling into a mess you cannot pull apart without snapping them.

When it is time to sow, whether in the fall or the spring following stratification, pour the contents of the packet into a container, add 2 to 3 litres of substrate (vermiculite, seed-starting mix, or sand), and mix well. This additional volume will help you distribute the seeds more evenly across the entire surface.
