🌾 Who are we?
Akène – Native Seeds is a growing company committed to preserving and regenerating biodiversity. We produce and collect seeds of native wild plants on our land located in Montcalm, in the heart of the Laurentians.
🎯 What you will do
We are looking for a curious, rigorous, and motivated person eager to experience immersive field work, with hands in the soil and eyes on native flora. Guided by the team, you will take part in all stages of small-scale seed production:
• Establishment of native plants in our field plots
• Maintenance and weeding of crops in natural environments
• Preparation of new planting areas
• Harvesting and handling of seeds
• Observation, location, and identification of plants of interest
Etc.
The work takes place outdoors and can be physically demanding, but it offers an exceptional opportunity to learn about the cultivation of native plants and about the local ecosystem.
This is a physical, technical, and inspiring job, ideal for those who want to learn in a different way: through action, at the rhythm of the seasons, and in direct contact with nature.
Please note that this is a daytime position. No on-site accommodation is available. Applicants must therefore live close enough to commute to work each day.
🌿 Profile sought
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle (rural location)
• Strong interest in native plants, ecosystems, and biodiversity
• Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors, sometimes in variable conditions
• Attention to detail, reliability, and strong organizational skills
• Autonomy, versatility, and initiative
• Training in horticulture, market gardening, or environmental studies is considered an asset.
• Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment period*
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person designated as a refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally authorized to work in Canada in accordance with the applicable legislative provisions of the province or territory concerned*
*These eligibility criteria are required due to a subsidy from the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program.
✨ What we offer
• A hands-on, meaningful learning experience within a project with a positive environmental impact
• An ongoing learning environment focused on native plants, their cultivation, and seed harvesting, where observation of living systems guides practices
• The opportunity to contribute to the development of an emerging native seed production sector
• A friendly and welcoming work atmosphere in a forest setting, at the heart of nature
