Nodding onion (Allium cernuum) is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches about 50 cm in height. This species features long, linear leaves that emerge from the base and are bright green. During the summer, typically between June and August, the nodding onion produces umbrella-shaped clusters of bell-like flowers, which can be pale pink or purple, attracting various pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Preferring well-drained soils rich in organic matter, this plant thrives in full sun but also tolerates partial shade. The nodding onion is hardy and can adapt to different conditions, making it an excellent choice for natural gardens.

Medicinal and Culinary Uses
The entire plant has mild medicinal properties similar to those of garlic. Young leaves and flowers can be eaten raw, adding a delicate flavour to salads, while the bulbs, though smaller than those of cultivated species, can also be used to enhance dishes. However, their culinary use is less widespread than that of other garlic varieties.
